After my interview with Lori La Bey a few weeks ago, I looked further into her Dementia Map website. One heading jumped out at me:
Which, as you probably know by now, was my own mission when I wrote It's Raining in Moscow and I Forgot my Umbrella!
"Shed a positive light on dementia?" I hear you cry. Well yes, actually. The time we had with my mother-in-law when she had dementia was incredibly positive. I totally understand why people have difficulty finding anything positive - dementia is an horrific condition. However, if it is at all possible to turn around a negative, then why not try?
I had to delve deeper. What I found next was extraordinary - an umbrella!
This one wasn't forgotten in Moscow, it was beautifully illustrating the different types of dementia.
I got in touch with Teepa's team and they asked if I would send my book which, of course, I did. This resulted in an interview which took place live last week. Teepa is an amazing lady. She first developed her Positive Physical Approach technique early in her practice career and introduced it to others in continuing education workshops for nursing in the late 1980s. By 2006, Teepa was spending time both organizing and leading over 140 conferences and workshops a year in eastern North Carolina and providing training and consultation in both the US and Canada, as well as speaking across the continent. At that time, she founded Positive Approach, LLC.
Teepa is probably the most visually empathetic person I have ever met. If you watch the interview she looks as though she is living through every word. It is a gift to be able to send such warm feelings through a zoom call!
I can see why she has been so successful in her striving to help both dementia sufferers and their carers. In fact, anyone who has a connection with dementia.
Finally I was thrilled to find Teepa had left a fabulous review for me on the US Amazon site.
It's my first American rating, so quite special!

Congratulations Caroline on this, your next success: this interview and your first US review! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you both and it was great seeing you via zoom. Well done!
